Wednesday, May 29: Blogger Development & Genre Fiction
Day 2
We talk about how we develop ourselves as bloggers. Have you branched out into your community? Do you partner with other bloggers? Have you gone "pro" or begun supplementing your income through your blog? Are you a long-term blogger, and how has your online personality developed over the years? These are simply ideas. Think development and tell us what comes to mind. The book-ish focus will be genre fiction. What draws you to a specific genre? Do vampires, zombies, or witches float your boat? Or, do you prefer the heat of romance? Recommend your favorite genres and/or books and help build reader TBR shelves a bit more!

With my site I haven't branched out at all in my local community. Most of the people who know me offline don't even know about this site.
I have not partnered with another blogger for this site. Years ago I was part of other sites and never the owner of them and contributed reviews, helped mod forums, etc. I got enough of that where I wanted to branch out on my own.
I haven't gone pro at all and likely won't ever reach that status.
By blogging over the years I have gotten more into reviewing, book themes and events, and it has enhanced my love of reading and books even more. I have been in touch with those who like books as much as I do, which is rewarding in itself.
For my genre recommendation I'm going to go with Urban Fantasy. It's taking supernatural elements and slapping them in our world. Usually the lead is a woman, but sometimes male. There is no whining or emo (or shouldn't be) and romance is there (most of the time) but as a backseat. Sometimes it's more predominant, but other series don't have it at all.
For Urban Fantasy series I recommend Kim Harrison's The Hollows, Tanya Huffs Blood price series (although the last book irritated me), the first ten books of the Anita Blake series (but beyond that the series turned into awful erotica), the Magic Bites (heavier on the romance than most but it's funny and awesome), The Morgan Kingsley series (Five books, series is complete), The Sookie Stackhouse series, etc. It's nearly endless.
