Little Mix's "Black Magic" - Single Review

Not familiar with UK girl group Little Mix? That's okay, neither am I. Thankfully, a recent cover performance of RuPaul's gay-tastic "Sissy The Walk" brought the four-piece, The X Factor-winning act to my attention and a first listen to their latest single "Black Magic" (out July 14 in the U.S.) has my adoration for the girls growing minute by minute.

After releasing two top ten albums in the U.S. and recently penning the unfortunate flop that was "Pretty Girls" by Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea, the girls still have not made a noticeable splash on the pop scene. That could all change this summer. "Black Magic", the lead single from the group's upcoming third studio album, is an insanely catchy, 80s pop-leaning dance track that is built around a radio-friendly, joyous chorus about falling in love.

With a tone and structure similar to other 80s iconic classic such as "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston, the new single is a chant-worthy creation where all four of the girls get a chance to show off their impressive vocal talents. "Take a sip of my secret potion, I'll make you fall in love, for a spell that can't be broken, one drop should be enough," they sing on the sparkly and memorable chorus.

"Black Magic" is a fun, carefree release that should catch on with many lovestruck teenagers in the coming months. It's a strong and infectious pop track that ultimately becomes one of the better releases of 2015. The retro, throwback styling paired with a fierce and sassy attitude from the group allows the single to be in tune with current radio trends while unique enough to stand out for the right reasons.

To help with the song's success, an accompanying music video was released back in May. With a storyline similar to a PG version of The Craft, the girls are transformed from the geeks of their high school to the beauties that rule the halls with the help of a mysterious spellbook from the library. While being cute and slightly over-the-top, the visual sums up the "Black Magic" meaning perfectly.

So what do you think? Does Little Mix have a future radio hit on their hands?
