To borrow a line from the one and only Burton Cummings: We've got our own way to rock. Our own way to roll.
And these days, we've also got our own way to rule the charts. Whether you listen to music on your stereo or your smartphone, it's hard to miss the current crop of Canadian artists — including Drake, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber — dominating the scene.
But today's young guns are hardly the first home-grown heroes to command the spotlight. From pioneers like Paul Anka and classic rockers like The Guess Who to female icons like Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain, Canadians have always been a pop presence. And with our home and native land's 150th birthday near, there's no better time to sing our own praises.
With that in mind, here's a 150-song playlist of CanCon classics from the past six decades. Admittedly, it barely scratches the surface — so feel free to add your own favourite tracks to the mix (and tweet me your suggestions).
After all, you've got your own way to rock too.
